Note: this is mainly for Starfox fans, and those who know about what Starfox Adventures was originally, who would like to see DP be made as it should have been. If you like Starfox as an excuse for drawing disgusting furry porn, this is not for you.
Recently, I've stumbled upon a new petition to try to either get Rare to buy back the rights to Krystal (and Dinosaur Planet, as that technically belongs to Nintendo as well) OR get Nintendo to reboot the Starfox series as a whole (possibly starting with their remake of Starfox 64 on the 3DS?) so that Krystal has nothing to do with that series anymore. Either way could mean a remake of DP.
I know that it's a long shot, and that there's probably NO way it's going to get the 10,000 signatures it needs, but it can't hurt to tell fans about it either.
It's a fairly new petition, so it only has 14 signatures last I checked.
Also, for anyone who's curious about Dinosaur Planet, I suggest going here: [link]
*The rest is TL;DR. Turn back now unless you feel like boring yourself to death, haha*
Personally, I don't see why Nintendo shouldn't reboot the series and let Rare have the rights back. Two of the main reasons DP was made into a Starfox game were;
a) Nintendo wanted a new Starfox game, but apparently couldn't figure out any ideas for a plot.
& b) Nintedo was also concerned that a new series like Dinosaur Planet wouldn't be able to sell as well as it should. Putting Starfox in the title would have gotten it more publicity, which it did. Unfortunatly, it was a poor attempt at a "Starfox" game and now the SF games have gone downhill from SFA.
I think they should reboot the series (god I'm using that word a lot, haha) starting with the SF64 remake they've already done.
From there, they could make the cancelled Starfox 2 and have that come after the events in SF64. It would give true Starfox fans what they want:
+ a sequel that doesn't suck eggs
+ a good game that never got to see the light of day. I'm sure that it would sell well. Hell, I think they could even find a way to make it work with the Wiis' control scheme
+ a renewed interest in the Starfox franchise, thus raking in more money for Nintendo.
The SF story could then be re-written from there to exclude Krystal altogether. I know that a lot of SF fans hate Krystal, and with good reason (sorry, Krystal fans!)
Plus, (and this is all hypothetical, keep in mind) if Rare then has the rights to Krystal back, DP could be remade on the 360.
One of the reasons that DP was made into SF was because there was concern about the story not being enough to sell a lot of copies without a mainstream series title on it. This probably wouldn't be a concern, as a lot of people who have played SFA know about how it used to be Dinosaur Planet and blah blah blah.
Rare hasn't forgotten about this game. I've read interviews that say that the staff would like to remake this game, but it's stuck in limbo right now for obvious reasons. (the article I read this is is [link] )
Probably never going to happen, but if it does, I'm sure both Nintendo and Rare would profit from it greatly.
I know it's kind of ridiculous to get worked up over a video game, but it just seems like such a shame for a good story to go to waste in lieu of a crappier, watered-down version of said story. The original version was said to be anywhere from 80-90% finished before being revamped into the one Starfox game to derail the whole franchise for another two games afterwards.
I don't mean to bitch so much, just seeing this petition and finding out new details about DP recently has renewed my interest in this lost game.
